After the consultation, the patient comes in for the treatment, which takes about 60 minutes, including the medical history. First, a strong numbing cream is applied to the lips, and in most cases this gives sufficient anaesthesia. For very sensitive patients, an anaesthetic injection is also possible. We then make a few injections with a fine needle to place the hyaluronic acid. Modern products contain an added anaesthetic, which further reduces the patient’s discomfort.

After the treatment, the lips will be swollen. The swelling lasts about 3 days (it depends on the individual), so it is best to have this type of treatment before a weekend. People prone to cold sores should also discuss antiviral prevention with the doctor before the treatment. We talk about this during the consultation.
